March 16th easy run session for all abilities. Every runner should be getting sessions in during the week that are comfortable and fun. Today’s run is called an easy run for a reason. It should be done at an easy, conversational pace. Typically, this is 90 seconds to 2 minutes slower per mile than 5k pace. No matter where you are as a runner, this is a staple of your running plan. By building up consistency and your weekly miles, you will continue to develop as a runner. Aim for between 3 and 6 miles for today’s session.
COACHING TIP: Easy runs are a perfect time to focus on good form. Running tall, with relaxed shoulders and your chest out. This enables a runner to run more efficiently and to help with breathing. Every little thing you can do to make running easier will be beneficial.
I managed my 6 mile easy run on the trails today around a local forestry. My overall pace was 8:49/mile which felt fine, but I forgot to start my watch 😮 so Garmin missed the first mile! Arghhh…
