June 4th – Fartlek Run

fartlek run

Today’s session is a Fartlek Run – A fartlek run is just a run where you change pace throughout the course of the session. There are no hard and fast rules to what it will entail exactly. I suggest making this a 3-6 mile run in total. For today’s fartlek, we’ll be doing 4 minutes at hard effort followed by 1 minute of recovery. Typically we would say this is 4-minutes ON, 1-minute off. Do these changes of pace for 30 minutes in total. This type of training helps make the miles seem to pass by more quickly. Have fun 😀

COACHING TIP: These fartleks are a great time to really push your pace harder than normal. When you change your pace faster, aim for better than 5k race pace. Use the ARC-Target Interval Pace Chart as a general guide to work out a goal pace.
