March 23rd Fartlek Run – A fartlek run is just a run where you change pace throughout the course of the session. There are no hard and fast rules to what it will entail exactly. I suggest making this a 3-6 mile run in total. For today’s fartlek, pick random road markers and use these as a point to change pace. Some examples would be telephone poles, houses, street signs, etc. So you may change your pace faster every three telephone poles you pass. Then after three poles, slow down for three poles for recovery. This type of training helps make the miles seem to pass by more quickly. Have fun 😀
COACHING TIP: These fartleks are a great time to really push your pace harder than normal. When you change your pace faster, aim for better than 5k race pace. Use the ARC-Target Interval Pace Chart as a general guide to work out a goal pace.
